49 Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier (15/05/2018)

The monumental San Juan de Dios, in Murcia, was the place chosen today to present the 49th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier with a vindication of baroqueism by its director David Martínez, in an act that opened the mayor of San Javier and that counted with the participation of the painter Gonzalo Sicre, author of the poster of this edition, and the director of the Institute for Arts and Cultural Industries, Marta López-Briones.

A group of soloists of the Orchestra of the Region of Murcia put the music to an act, which was attended by a broad representation of the world of regional theater, in which the sculptor Juan José Quirós finished giving shape to the Festival Award that will be given to dancer Sara Baras on August 24.

The program consists of 16 shows, most of them representative of contemporary Spanish theater in which the San Javier Festival is watched, which always has a space for classical theater, music and dance.

Program

The Festival will begin on August 1 with "Ben-Hur", a fun theatrical montage devised and directed by Yllana and written by Nancho Navo who approaches from humor the mythical character fictionalized by Lewis Wallace.

The work, co-produced by the Festival de Mérida with Focus and Yllana, enjoys a fast pace and visual ingenuity that they themselves have defined as "Teatromascope".

A brilliant cast led by Eva Isanta and Agustín Jiménez gives life to the ingenious gags and scathing dialogues that guarantee the laughter of the public.

Alfredo Sanzol, National Prize for Dramatic Literature 2017, and recent Premio Valle Inclán, writes and directs "La Valentía", a work in which he tells the story that is unleashed after the inheritance by two sisters, of a family home full of memories of childhood, which has ended up stuck on a highway.

The work, produced by Lazona and Teatro Kamikaze, brings Alfredo Sanzol to the San Javier Festival once again, in which he has been present in the last three editions, as one of the greatest representatives of contemporary Spanish theater, said the Festival director , David Martínez

The first of the two dance shows included in the program will arrive on Sunday August 5 with the prestigious Canadian choreographer Marie Chouinard and his company with which he will present "The Garden of Delights."

The ballet, based on the painting of the same name by El Bosco, was created by Marie Chouinard on behalf of the Jheronimus Bosch 500 Foundation, from Holland, on the occasion of the V centenary of the painter.

Known as one of the innovators of contemporary dance, the prestigious choreographer interprets, if she recreates, the El Bosco painting, with original music by the composer Louis Dufort, this show that arrives in Spain thanks to the collaboration of the San Javier Festival and the one from Sagunto, recalled David Martínez.

The Festival, which was launched 49 years ago by the local amateur theater group, reserves a date each year for the current theater group San Javier, heir to the original, which this year will present the famous "Orquesta de Señoritas" by Jean Anouilh , in which post-war France is recreated through a decadent orchestra of young ladies played by male actors, directed by Orlando Gabriel Panizzoli.

The theater of improvisation is a novelty in the program of the San Javier Festival that presents the company "Impromadrid", on August 8.

Expert actors in the improvisation are launched to play with the Golden Age from the phrase of Lope de Vega that gives title to the assembly "Nobody was given poison in laughter" through comic scenes driven by the suggestions of the public.

Pedro Casablanc and Pepe Viyuela head "Filotectetes", the second production of the Mérida Classic Festival, which will be seen in San Javier, under the direction of Antonio Simón.

The text of Sophocles in the version by Jordi Casanovas tells the story of one of the Greek heroes who were part of the expedition to Troy, whom his companions abandoned on an island to which they will have to return ten years later.

On Saturday, August 11, the musical section will be premiered with the concert by Martirio and Javier Ruibal, both National Prize of Current Music, granted by the Ministry of Culture.

Along with a band composed of piano, guitar, Tres Flamenco, double bass and drums, they will make a journey through traditional Spanish and Latin American music with a nod to Maghrebi music.

The family theater will arrive on Sunday August 12 with the musical "The crazy story of the sleeping beauty", in which La Ratonera Teatro gives a twist to the famous story of which the characters disappear because the children have Stop reading stories.

The street theater will come with "A S'ombra", a circus show by the hand of the Balearic company Atirofijo Circ, in the Plaza de España, in San Javier.

It is a piece of contemporary circus, in which new processes of connection with the public are investigated, including classical disciplines such as trapeze in flight, throwing knives, acrobatic balances, manipulation of objects and circus acts, starting with the story of two wandering characters.

The actress Loles León is part of the cast of "Las Amazonas", which will arrive on August 15, along with Silvia Abascal, Olivia Molina, Laura Pamplona, ​​Maxi Iglesias, Xabi Murua and Karina Garantivá, directed by Magüi Mira.

The work, co-produced by the Festival of Merida and Pentación, recreates in a tone of humor Von Kleist's Pentesilea, about the feminine myth of warrior women who choose sex without love in order to procreate and continue to increase the tribe.

Celtic music will be the protagonist in the second of the concerts scheduled at the 49th Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier that will feature one of the first concerts of the summer in Spain, after its premiere in the United States, by Carlos Núñez and Jordi Savall

With the title "Celtic Dialogues", the two musicians who are experts in historical music pay homage to the origins and development of the Celtic musical culture.

On Friday the 17th there will be one of the legendary companies of the Spanish theater, La Cuadra de Sevilla with the replenishment 45 years after the opera prima of the great Salvador Távora, "Quejío" a work that marked a before and after the Spanish and flamenco theater , pointed out the director of the Festival. The actor and director Sergio Peris Mencheta directs "Lehman Trilogy", a work that tells the story of three generations of the Lehman family from its rise to its fall, when it is 10 years since the biggest bankruptcy in history that led to the last great global crisis.

Six actors give life to 120 characters that parade in this story in a musical key that reflects on the destructive power of money and the local career in search of easy profit.

The annual co-production of the Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier with the Murcia theater arrives this year, on August 21, with "Antígona" of the Railway Theater, with dramaturgy and direction of Paco Maciá and performed by Eloísa Azorín.

The montage addresses what is one of the great tragedies of humanity from the company's own language in a version that seeks timelessness and symbolism.

The work features Francisco Contreras "Niño de Elche" in the music, Ángel Haro in the set and Pepe Yagües in the lighting.

Almost closing the festival will come the company Ron Lalá, on August 23, with "Crimen y Telón" a montage in the original line of which has become one of the most important companies in the Spanish theater scene with its three basic pillars of theater, music and humor.

"Crime and Curtain" begins with a death, the theater, and the investigation that triggers this murder of which even the public will be suspect.

The closing of the Festival will be put on the 24th of August by bailaora Sara Baras, who will receive the Prize of the 49 Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier, which she visited for the last time in 2012 with "La Pepa".

Sara Baras directs and choreographs her latest show "Sombras", a journey through time with which she goes through her flamenco career without repeating choreographies and with a magical and unique staging.

The director of the Festival, David Martínez announced the upcoming incorporation of new street shows as a parade with which the Festival will be inaugurated.

The prices of the tickets will range between 8 and 20 euros.

The tickets will go on sale with a price of 130 euros including all the shows except the family theater and Sara Baras show.

As usual, the Festival includes a training course for actors that in this edition will be given by the actor and dancer Alberto Velasco on "Interpretation and body creation".

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo highlighted the effort of the City of San Javier to maintain the quality of the Festival of Theater, Music and Dance, as well as Jazz, "making San Javier a cultural reference within and outside the Region "
