MurciaaEscena presents in San Javier the nominees for the Azahar Performing Arts Awards of the Region of Murcia (01/08/2018)

MurciaaEscena chose for the second consecutive year San Javier to present the nominees for the Azahar Performing Arts Awards of the Region of Murcia, coinciding with the opening day of the 49th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier.

The Awards, which will be delivered on October 23 at the Teatro Romea, Murcia, were created "to project and visualize the scenic production of the Region in the last year," said the president of MurciaaEscnea, Esperanza Clares who highlighted "the synergy that has existed for years between MurciaaEscena and the San Javier Festival ".

The presentation took place in the hall of the City Hall with the participation of the Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the Councilor for Culture and Festival Director, David Martínez, Esperanza Clares, and the director of the Azahar Awards gala, José Carlos Ruiz with a wide presence of representatives of the performing arts sector of the Region of Murcia.

José Carlos Ruiz was in charge of announcing the nominees among which stand out "Yerma", by Doble K Teatro, and "Los Caciques", by Alquibla Teatro with 13 and 12 nominations, respectively.

The honorary prize this year will be for César Oliva "for his multifaceted theatrical trajectory and his commitment to the Murcian companies".

José Carlos Ruiz highlighted as a positive fact that this year a total of nine productions compete for one of the 16 categories of those Awards that celebrate its second edition.

Along with "Yerma", by Doble K Teatro and "Los Caciques", by Alquibla Teatro competes as Best Theater Show, "Unsolosabor", by L'artesana and La manzana dorada.

Encarna Illán competes for the Best Director Award for "The Pied Piper of Hamelin";

Antonio Saura for "Los Caciques" and Javier Matero for "Yerma".

Esperanza Clares for Eduarda in "Los Caciques", María Alarcón in "Odyssey 80" and Inmaculada Rufete for "Yerma" will compete for the Azahar Award for Best Actress, while Julio Navarro, for Pepe Ojeda in "Los Caciques", David Terol for "Unsolosabor" and Alfredo Zamora for Juan in "Yerma", opt for the Best Actor award.

In addition, the best children's shows, musicals, author, version, adaptation and / or dramaturgy, actress and supporting actor, original music, sound space, set design, lighting and costumes will be awarded.

From October 1 to 10, the second round of voting will be held to choose the winners, which will be announced during the gala that will take place on Tuesday, October 23 at the Romea Theater in Murcia.

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo congratulated the nominees to whom he wished luck and highlighted the happy coincidence of the presentation with the day in the "San Javier raises the curtain" in reference to the Festival in which for years will premiere a co-production with a Murcia company, in this case with La Ferroviaria and "Antigona".

The director of the Festival thanked "the important work of MurciaaEscena to recognize the work that Murcia companies are doing in the Region of Murcia."
