"The Amazons" take the auditorium of Parque Almansa (14/08/2018)

With the "no tickets" sign and preceded by a resounding success at the Mérida Festival, he arrives at the San Javier Las Amazonas Festival, the story of "a group of women who decided to establish a life, a state and a protocol without men "explains Magüi Mira, director and author of the version of the work, based on the" Pentiselea "by Von Kleist, in which the feminist struggle ends in a change of roles.

The Amazons are women who, fed up with being subjected, train as warriors, despising men among those who select the best only to procreate and ensure the continuity of their lineage of females.

The problem arises when love, which was not foreseen, arises between Penthesilea and Achilles, endangering the world of women they had created.

The cast, full of familiar faces, is headed by Silvia Abascal who in the role of Penthesilea will have to face the internal conflict that generates his love for Achilles, having to decide whether to continue with his feminist struggle or surrender to romantic love.

The High Priestess, to whom Loles León gives life, the three princesses, Olivia Molina, Laura Pamplona and Karina Garantivá and the rest of the warrior women will try to prevent Penthesilea from succumbing to love.

Aquiles, played by Xabier Murua, is in the same situation, although the kings who give life, Maxi Iglesias and Antonio Hortelano will also try not to surrender to the queen of the Amazons, a tribe of legend that continues to be so attractive because they reveal themselves against subjection, as Magüi Mira points out to those who like to tell stories "where women are not only victims, but we fight".

Feminism, war of sexes, intrigue, and romantic love are intertwined as themes in a work that moves from comedy to tragicomedy on a simple set design by Curt Allen Wilmer, with music by Marco Rasa, songs performed by Loles León, and a wardrobe designed by Lorenzo Caprile.

"Las Amazonas" is a co-production of the International Festival of Classical Theater of Mérida and Pentación Espectáculos.

The work premiered last August 8 in Mérida where it has been performed until Sunday 12.
