Agriculture recognizes a new organization of horticultural producers in San Javier (22/01/2019)

Nearly 100 producer organizations in the region added a production value of more than 1,740 million euros in 2018

The Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries has recognized a new Organization of Producers (OP), El Dulze Growers, dedicated mainly to the production of lettuce, of different types and varieties, and aromatic plants.

The counselor Miguel Angel of Love, visited today, along with the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the facilities of the company, which is characterized by betting on innovation using the latest existing technologies and adapting them to their production model.

Specifically, the packaging plant has more than 7,000 square meters of surface, and the entity "is an industry 4.0, a pioneer in horticultural companies, which has the automation and robotization of all processes, both in the field and in the tasks of selection, preparation and bagging, "Del Amor said.

This company has 480 workers.

It markets more than 100 million hearts of lettuce and last year it invoiced more than 34 million euros, and exports to all of Europe and the Middle East.

However, 50 percent of its turnover is concentrated in Spain.

It also meets the requirements for an OP such as the number of producer members, the value of commercialized production, the availability of structure, technical and human resources, as well as the ability to market their products.

Producer organizations

Producer organizations have as main objectives the production planning to adjust to the market demand, the concentration of supply and the improvement of the commercialization of the production of the members that make them up.

For a PO to be recognized by the administration, it must have a minimum number of five partners and achieve marketable production values.

The Region of Murcia currently has about 100 recognized producer organizations, which last year generated a production value of more than 1,740 million euros.

Of these, more than 90 benefit from the aid scheme of the operational programs, instruments that allow them to propose a set of investments, but which, at the same time, obliges them to fulfill a series of objectives, including environmental measures .

These entities receive more than 60 million euros of community aid.

These companies make investments worth more than 130 million euros, benefiting from a 50 percent Community contribution of the actions carried out with this operating fund.

In the whole of the country there are three autonomous communities that manage 75 percent of the aid to organizations of producers of fruits and vegetables: Andalusia, Murcia and the Valencian Community, since between the three they accumulate 60 percent of the total of OP in Spain.
