The EDUSI of La Manga del Mar Menor promotes the improvement of accessibility and urban mobility (26/02/2019)

The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras, visited today accompanied by the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the works of Improvement of Accessibility and Continuity of the Bike Track that are being carried out in La Manga del Mar Menor, in the term of San Javier, marked in the EDUSI (Strategy for Sustainable and Integrated Development) that the Autonomous Community of Murcia develops in La Manga del Mar Menor with an investment of 19 million euros, of which 80 percent are financed by the Union European

The works, which have a maximum execution period of four months, cover a kilometer and a half, from the beginning of the municipality of San Javier, which will carry out a total of 233 actions in 76 points with an investment of 375,000 euros .

The improvement of accessibility implies the construction of ramps, expansion of the sidewalk in four points, elimination or replacement of existing obstacles in the pedestrian route and intervention in urban furniture that interferes with accessibility.

Seven bus stops will also be modified, 13 parking spaces for people with disabilities will be reserved and 13 pedestrian crossings to the Gran Vía and 24 parallels will be modified, among other actions, such as providing continuity in that section to the bike lane.

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo highlighted the help that has been Famdif (Federation of Murcia Associations of People with Physical and / or Organic Disability), whose president Carmen Gil, participated in the visit, in the preparation of the project of these works that were proposed by the City of San Javier for inclusion in the EDUSI "because La Manga has to have basic infrastructure consistent with quality tourism throughout the year so that anyone can enjoy it on equal terms, with the utmost respect for the accessibility law "said the mayor.

Luengo pointed out that this EDUSI project will give continuity to the project of accessibility, improvement of pedestrian mobility, security in cycle lane and continuity in pedestrian walks.

The mayor of San Javier recalled that these connections have already been made by joining the Tomás Maestre port area with the Mistral beach and the municipal sports pavilion and Príncipe beach "giving continuity to four kilometers that can be covered without any type of cut".

The president of the Community, Fernando López Miras said that EDUSI "La Manga 365" aims to increase the tourist potential of La Manga "further enhancing La Manga as an international tourist reference always having sustainability and respect for the environment as parameters principal for the design and execution of these projects ".

Among the ongoing projects of EDUSI, there is a lookout in the area of ​​the Galúa hotel, which will involve a wide stepped space on the coast, with views of all of La Manga that includes areas for walking, rest and recreation, with a investment of 786,772 euros, according to the regional president in a visit to the works.

Within the actions of this strategy are already about to conclude the works of the parking lot of the Gola de Marchamalo and, in this same place, a new lookout is being planned.

A new children's leisure area is also completed on the Gran Vía, next to the sports pavilion.
