XXII International Jazz Festival of San Javier (22/07/2019)

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, accompanied by the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez and the director of the Jazz Festival, Alberto Nieto, presented the award of the XXII International Jazz Festival of San Javier to the American bassist Ron Carter after the memorable concert that he offered on the night of Sunday, July 21, in the Almansa Park auditorium in San Javier.

Ron Carter received the Award for being a living legend and a symbol of the best classical tradition, as well as being one of the best double bass players, if not the best, of the whole history of jazz.

During almost seven decades of career, this double bass virtuoso has played with most of the jazz greats such as Eric Dolphy, Don Ellis, Randy Weston, Thelonious Monk, Cannonball Adderley, Art Farmer or Sonny Rollins, among many others.

During the decade of the 60s he was part of the famous fifteen milestone of Miles Davis, along with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter and Tony Williams, participating in legendary albums like Quiet Nights (1963) or My Funny Valentine (1965), among others.

After this fruitful stage, Carter continued working, based on the record label CTI, where he recorded as a leader and also as a sideman on albums by George Benson, Chet Baker, Antonio Carlos Jobim and many others.

Throughout his extensive and successful career, he has also participated in film soundtracks such as The Wiz (1978) and Twin Peaks (TV series, Season 2) (1990), among many others.
