The Civil Guard detains a bank card numbering clone in San Javier (15/11/2019)

So far a score of criminal acts has been clarified

He used his job in a shop to obtain the data of the cards for later use in Internet purchases

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has developed the operation 'Pungasfood', an investigation aimed at clarifying a series of scams through the internet, which has resulted in the identification, location and detention of a neighbor of San Javier who cloned, allegedly, the credit card data of the customers of the establishment where he worked to use them as a means of payment on purchases made online.

The proceedings began last summer as a result of the presentation of several complaints of injured parties that stated that they received charges for purchases through the internet through their debit and credit cards, purchases that they had not made and were charged in their bank accounts, so the Civil Guard opened the operation to verify the facts reported and, where appropriate, clarify them.

The first steps of the operation consisted in carrying out an exhaustive analysis of the information provided by the victims when they presented the complaints, as well as that requested to other agencies, which allowed investigators to identify the alleged perpetrator.

The investigations carried out allowed to verify that the cardholders had made use of them.

What caught the attention of the agents was that all of them had visited the same restaurant in the municipality on dates immediately before the fraudulent purchases, so the main line of investigation was based on the employees of the premises.

According to his modus operandi, the author of the facts used his work in the place of restoration of mass influx of people in San Javier, where the now detained allegedly performed the cloning of the numbering of the bank card for later use in online purchases by customers, causing damage to their bank accounts through purchase charges that their holders had not made.

In his lucrative eagerness, the suspect came to collect, allegedly, even the bank details of his own co-workers with whom he apparently also made fraudulent purchases.

As a result of the analysis of the information obtained during the operation, it is estimated that, so far, there would be about twenty clones of card numbering and theft, adding around 5,000 euros the amount obtained fraudulently

Once all the necessary evidence was obtained, the Civil Guard established a search device on the suspect, which has culminated in his location and detention as the alleged perpetrator of the crime of fraud and theft.

The Romanian detainee, 28 years old and resident in San Javier and the proceedings have been made available to the Court of Instruction of San Javier (Murcia).
