The City Council of San Javier recovers the garbage rate (16/10/2020)

| Summary of matters approved by the October Plenary | The San Javier City Council was the only municipality in the Region that did not charge the rate for the collection of urban solid waste The Plenary of the City Council of San Javier has approved the establishment of the garbage tax, which has not been charged in the municipality since 2000, as well as the ordinance that regulates it, which is initially approved and will be exposed to the public for 30 days before final approval.

The garbage tax will cost 4.94 euros per home per month and 59.31 per year, "one of the lowest in the Region of Murcia and the lowest in the region," said the Councilor for Finance, Héctor Verdú He recalled that "San Javier is the only municipality in the Region where this service is not charged." The mayor of the Treasury explained that the establishment of the garbage rate was one of the most important measures of the 2020 and 2021 Economic-Financial Plan that was approved by the Plenary of last August, without any vote against, with the intention of be able to recover budget stability.

The expenses caused by the last Danas, the fall in income in the City Council planned for this year due to the pandemic and the fiscal aid approved to mitigate its economic effects, aimed at both individuals and the commercial sector, require stabilizing the budget "in order to continue providing essential services to citizens and accessing grants and loans under favorable conditions," said Verdú. The collection of the fee, the amount of which varies depending on the use of the property depending on whether it is a home, a shop, a hotel or a factory, will raise 3 million euros, which coincides with the annual cost of the new waste collection service awarded in 2014 , which has led to a substantial improvement in the management of urban solid waste.

The Councilor for the Treasury, Héctor Verdú highlighted the bonuses that have been approved in the payment of the garbage rate as a 50 percent discount for pensioners and retirees and families with limited resources and 100 percent for non-profit entities and religious entities.

Second-degree large families will benefit from a 45 percent discount and first-degree 65 percent.

Also, in addition to a 3 percent discount for direct debit, the new garbage tax has been included in the "Payment a la carte" that allows dividing the amount into 2, 3 or 6 installments during the year, without surcharges. The councilor for the Treasury, Héctor Verdú, recalled that the garbage tax existed in the municipality until 2000 when 62 euros were paid, 2 euros more than the new tax.

Then it was eliminated to compensate the neighbors for the rise in the IBI bill that caused the upward revision of the cadastral values.

The good economic situation of the City Council has allowed not only not to implement this rate since then, but to apply a reduction in taxes and fees that in the case of IBI receipts reaches 12 percent, Héctor Verdú recalled.

The mayor of the Treasury pointed out that now the San Javier City Council is no stranger to the current situation and the drop in income, the extraordinary expenses of the last DANAS and the pandemic are added, so recovering budget stability is an exercise of responsibility. The recovery of the garbage rate was approved with the votes of the government team and the votes against the rest of the municipal groups for considering it inappropriate in time.
