The General Director of Crafts, Francisco Abril visited "the kitchens" of the new "Bethlehem of Spain" (12/12/2017)

The general director of Commerce, Consumption and Handicrafts, Francisco Abril today referred to the Bethlehem of Spain as an "icon of Christmas not only for San Javier but for the entire Region of Murcia" during the visit he made to the headquarters of the association Friends of the Bethlehem of San Javier where these days work tirelessly in the integral renovation of the Bethlehem of San Javier, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, as well as in other nativity scenes that also bear the signature of the Association as the one of La Marquesa, the of Santiago de la Ribera and that of La Grajuela.

Francisco Abril, who was accompanied by the Mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo and the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez, was able to learn about the artisan process followed by the Native American specialists of San Javier to make the nearly 60 new constructions that will replace the previous Bethlehem that will remain one of the largest in Europe with its 520 square meters of outdoor extension and its 1,200 figures that will look newly restored.

The renovation of the Bethlehem, which also includes relief, vegetation and distribution, has coincided with the 50 years of Bethlehem that will be inaugurated on December 22 at 6:30 p.m.

"All Murcia should come to see the Bethlehem of San Javier" said the general director of Crafts, Francisco Abril who also called for a greater promotion for the largest group of belenistic in Spain for what offered the collaboration of his department this year lent its support to the exhibition on the work of Murcian craftsman Jesus Griñán can be seen throughout Christmas next to the Bethlehem, in the temple of San Francisco Javier.

The Association of Belenistas of San Javier counts among its members with six lovers of nativity craft that work in an industrial warehouse of the industrial estate Los Urreas throughout the year and more intensively in the months leading up to Christmas.

This year they face the challenge of the renovation of the Bethlehem of Spain, for which, according to its president, Luis Riquelme, all the constructions have been manufactured taking special care of the proportions of the whole in which, for the first time, huertana huts will appear.

Local artisans have used dozens of meters of porexpan with which they make all the historical-inspired Belenistic architecture with different techniques that provide a hyper-realistic and detailed finish with the incorporation of decorative elements manufactured to scale.

The effects and the movement of some scenes along with the lighting round off a set that this year expects to beat record of visitors in the Plaza de España.
