The Minister of Family and Equality of Opportunities, Violante Tomás, together with the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, and the president of the Association for the Integration of the Disabled of the Mar Menor Region (Aidemar), Francisco Javier García, visited today the day center of the association, where he explained that "the Ministry finances 1,744,000 euros for the care of people with disabilities belonging to this association."

Among the services subsidized by the Autonomous Community to this association is the center for early childhood development and attention, the day center for people with intellectual disabilities, the residence for people with intellectual disabilities, a sheltered housing for people with light intellectual disabilities and a sheltered housing for people with chronic mental illness.

In these centers, the Murciano Institute of Social Action (IMAS) serves 230 children from 0 to 6 years old, 98 people with intellectual disabilities and 4 people with chronic mental illness.

The day center offers comprehensive attention to the basic personal, therapeutic and sociocultural needs of people with intellectual disabilities affected by different degrees of dependency, promoting their autonomy and permanence in their usual environment.

Its objective is to improve the quality of life of these people, who participate in the activities of the occupational service, providing them with integral enabling attention.

According to Tomás Violante, "the Autonomous Community has already hired 50 places in this center, with an investment of 558,330 euros. This year we are going to make a big budgetary effort and five more places will be financed in this center and another eight places in the residence of the association, with the purpose of offering services to more people ".

In the residence had already contracted 33 places, to which the Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities allocated 681,000 euros.

Aidemar is an association composed of families with children who have disabilities and who has been developing activities since 1982 in San Javier, with the aim of providing comprehensive care to children with disabilities.

Attention for all ages

The counselor commented that "Aidemar is a great example of how the interests of parents have been consolidating the associative movement in the Region, in the last twenty years." Since its inception, the association of the organization with families has been resulting in a offer of services structured with total closeness to the demands of people with disabilities and their families. "

He stressed that one of the values of the association "is that it provides services to people with disabilities in different cycles of life, ranging from early attention to employability programs."

Aidemar works with the implementation of an ISO 9001-2008 quality system, and offers a wide range of services that begin with child development and early care for children under 6 years of age.

It also functions as a concerted center for Special Education for students between 3 and 20 years old.

Aidemar also manages a special employment center and an employment resource center for job placement, and residential housing and family respite for people with severe disabilities, as well as a service for families.
