The garbage collection service will have a new base of vehicles and services in a month (20/02/2018)

Mayor José Miguel Luengo visited this morning the works of the new warehouse ship that has been built by the FCC company, concessionaire of the municipal service of solid urban waste collection and street cleaning, which will be completed within a maximum period of one month.

The work, which is missing the total closure and the final touches of crafts, consists of a warehouse of 1800 m2, an interior courtyard of 800 m2 and an office area of 200m on two floors.

The technical director of the project, Isidro Marcos explained that the new infrastructure is designed for maintenance, washing and fuel supply of all mobile units of the service such as waste collection trucks, sweepers and other auxiliary vehicles.

The ship, which has been built on a 2,752m2 municipal plot located in the Alto del Villar II polygon, also has an area of locker rooms and dining room for workers and another office for management and customer service.

It also has a closed patio for washing and refueling with a fuel tank that is intended to expand from the initial 20,000 liters to 40,000 liters.

Isidro Marcos explained that the project, which has gone from 315,000 euros of initial tender to about 500,000 euros, has been improved in materials, as in the enclosure or cover, as well as in quality and operation of the service, in addition to having a rainwater collection system for reuse, or another that guarantees that no waste will be discharged to the network that can generate the usual activity, such as washing vehicles.

The mayor José Miguel Luengo, who visited the facility accompanied by the councilors of Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz and Urban Planning, Antonio Martínez as well as the heads of the concessionaire company, highlighted the improvement that will mean for the waste collection service, street cleaning and selective collection, this new infrastructure "that is for all Sanjaviereños".

Luengo recalled that the new warehouse was one of the conditions of the contract for the award of the service, which also establishes that once it is finished, the building will become municipal property.

José Miguel Luengo thanked the concessionaire for the effort made in improving the facilities and noted that "this is another example of the municipal commitment to the environment and street cleaning that can be seen from the start-up of the new service with the renewal of containers and technological vehicles capable of washing containers or the expansion of selective collection points ".

Luengo stressed that "although there is still work to be done, we can already confirm that the investments are being made and that together we will get the service to continue improving".

He also recalled that the improvement of the service has been made compatible with the fact that "San Javier is the only municipality in the Region of Murcia where neighbors do not pay garbage fees".

Luengo said that although it was planned to create "the lowest rate in the region, the good performance of the municipal economy allowed us not only to set the cheapest but to renounce it in favor of the neighbors."
