San Javier was present at the Fifth State Meeting of Councils for Child and Adolescent Participation, as one of the Child Friendly Cities, named by the UNICEF Spanish Committee, held last weekend in Oviedo.
The Councilor for Youth, Estíbaliz Masegosa, the technician responsible for Ciudad Amiga de la Infancia, in San Javier, Susana Navarro and two of the young members of the Council of Child and Adolescent Participation of San Javier, Pablo Pérez and Cari Lechuga, formed the delegation local in this Meeting that culminated with the Manifesto of Oviedo in which the proposals of the 200 young participants, between 10 and 17 years old, from 13 autonomous communities are collected.
The young people worked on seven themes, framed in the principles of the Convention of the Rights of the Child, under the guiding thread of equity of opportunities between boys and girls.
The three themes that have had the most impact have been gender equality, identity and diversity, and cyberbullying in social networks.
In terms of gender, adolescents proposed the creation of a position responsible for monitoring the wage gap in companies.
On the dangers of cyberbullying, they agree to limit the use of social networks, not to upload offensive content and not to follow strangers.
"Being different is not bad", said the teenagers who demand an education in the normalization of diversity.
They have also asked for tougher laws and penalties for child abuse.
Councilor for Youth, Estíbaliz Masegosa highlighted the importance of this type of initiatives in which San Javier has participated as a Child Friendly City.
Masegosa recalled that the proposals of the participating children and adolescents were included in the Oviedo Manifesto that will be a tool to transfer the voice of children to political actors through the Platform for Children and the UNICEF Spanish Committee.
