The Inter-Universities Nautical Championship celebrates its 19th edition on Saturday June 2 in Santiago de la Ribera when the University of Murcia, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the AGA and the UCAM will once again measure their strength with the canoe in a regatta It will start at 10am at Barnuevo beach in Santiago de la Ribera.
The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo accompanied by Ricardo Ibáñez from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena;
Abel Marín, of the AGA;
Pablo Rosique, of the UCAM, and Fernando Lopez of the University of Murcia presented today in the City of San Javier the Championship that only gives the winner in the Trophy after three consecutive victories or five alternate victories.
All showed their intention to prevent this year the Trophy is owned by the UCAM that won the last two editions, and that floods the track record with 13 victories in 18 editions.
The AGA inaugurated the prize list with its only victory, 18 years ago, while the UMU and the UPCT won twice each.
The regatta, which includes the masculine, feminine, mixed and master categories, made up of teachers and staff from each center, will start at 10am with the different departures that can be contemplated from the Barnuevo beach.
The closing ceremony with the parade of all the teams and delivery of medals will start at 1.30pm on the same beach.
Beyond the intention of snatching the Trophy to the UCAM, all representatives of the participating universities highlighted the opportunity offered by this regatta for the meeting of all universities, the promotion of sport and in particular canoeing and the Mar Menor as a field of ideal regattas, reasons why it was created 19 years ago, as recalled by the mayor, José Miguel Luengo who highlighted "the affection with which San Javier hosts this Championship as demonstrated by the monolith with the Trophy that exhibits the Paseo Colón, in Santiago of the Ribera ".
