The procession of Corpus Christi held yesterday in San Javier was found in its wake with a large number of altars as tradition marks in this procession that brings together children of first communion.
One of the altars, made by the Friends of Bethlehem Association of San Javier, surprised with a carving of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, the work of Antonio Carrión, and owned by the Parish, which had not left the temple for decades.
It is a stucco wood carving, polychrome and with golden stews, which stands out for its beauty and its proportions with an approximate height of 1.70 meters.
Considered one of the jewels that the temple has, the carving along with the Sacred Heart of Jesus of the church of Santo Domingo, Murcia, is one of the maximum exponents of the Salzillo school, after the Civil War.
The altar, located on one side of the temple, was made entirely by the San Javier Nativity Scene Association, which counted with several donations of the pieces that composed it, such as the parish of San Pedro, in Espinardo and private individuals, who sheltered the carving of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which in turn was a donation of Tomás Maestre Zapata and Carmen Ballester Fernández to the parish of San Francisco Javier.
The procession of Corpus Christi toured the streets of San Javier in the afternoon, while in Santiago de la Ribera was celebrated during the morning with the traditional role played by the General Air Academy in this procession in which the colonel director of the AGA, Miguel Ivorra accompanied the mayor, José Miguel Luengo and the rest of the authorities along the procession in which a group of cadets also participates.
