Mayor José Miguel Luengo highlighted today the capacity of the municipality of San Javier to save on water consumption "both in the agricultural sector, which was a pioneer in drip irrigation, and in domestic consumption", during the presentation of the campaign of Hidrogea, "The value of water", by its director Javier Ybarra, in an act held in the plenary hall of the City of San Javier with the assistance of schoolchildren and various local groups.
Miguel Ybarra, director of Hidrogea, highlighted "the responsibility" shown by the inhabitants of San Javier where, in the period from 2008 to 2017, 18.6 percent of water has been saved, with an average consumption per inhabitant between the most adjusted at the national level.
He also pointed out the hydraulic performance (water supplied to the network and registered water) that is 89 percent, being one of the lowest in Spain, which means that only 11 percent is lost in leaks and leaks, far from the 30 percent that is lost nationally.
The new campaign, which promotes responsible consumption of domestic water, is motivated, not only by the current dry season, but also by the arrival of summer when water consumption in San Javier goes from 187,000 m³ in winter to a summer supply 350,000m3.
The campaign "The value of water" aims, in a very graphic, that users realize the amount of water they use in everyday gestures such as washing dishes, brushing teeth, in a shower or pulling the chain .
To do this, we suggest thinking about 1 liter bottles, to quantify the amount of water that circulates when we leave the tap open.
The publicist Jorge Martinez is responsible for the campaign that has been launched at the regional level and whose protagonist is a bottle with different messages that show us the water we spend every time we open a tap.
The public could take an empty liter glass bottle, with different slogans in which it is reported that a shower equals 90 bottles.
Scrub the dishes would be about 75 liter bottles, or pull the chain 10 bottles.
The presentation featured an original music concert performed with different glass bottles filled with water and light as the only instrument.
