The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo today highlighted the importance of San Javier being the goal of the fourth round of the Tour of Spain so much "for the tourist and economic relevance, as for the sporting example that it transmits among the youngest", during a visit to the CEIP "La Paz" coinciding with the last day, in the municipality, of the Junior Tour promoted by Cofidis.
The mayor was accompanied by Councilman Sergio Martinez, president of the Cycling Federation of the Region of Murcia.
The Junior Tour, which takes place in 10 municipalities in Spain related to the Vuelta Ciclista 2018, has traveled in recent weeks all schools in the municipality, including the CEIP "Mediterranean" of La Manga and Aidemar reaching more than 2000 Primary students from 8 to 12 years old, that of the hand of the regional cycling coach Juan Miguel Pérez have learned history and curiosities about this sport, as well as to circulate with more safety and skill, which they have been able to demonstrate in the final gymkhana mounted on a bicycle.
The second part of this initiative prior to the celebration of the Vuelta, which this year will land with all its means in San Javier, will be even more attractive for those selected who will represent all the centers visited.
On the 30th, before the arrival of the cyclists, a total of 150 children from San Javier will be able to do their own stage, covering by bicycle the last two real kilometers of the race with the treatment of professional cyclists, with whom they will share a podium.
Luengo appreciated the initiative of the Junior Tour that transmits teachings and values ​​of a sport such as cycling among our children and encouraged young and old to take advantage of the occasion of the goal of San Javier to get up close "the most important sporting event in summer that will arrive to our municipality next August 30 ".
