The councilor of Multiple Services, María Dolores Ruiz accompanied by the municipal technician of Environment, Milagros Villaescusa attended last week to the Conference "Innovation and Intelligent Management of Waste", which were held in Logroño organized by Ecoembes and the City Council of the city of La Rioja.
In the conference, in which politicians and city councilors from all over Spain participated, innovation projects were presented to promote citizen information in waste management, innovation techniques in ecodesign, and smart waste management programs, among other topics, under the premise of promoting the circular economy.
Likewise, a workshop was held with several working groups in which projects were proposed with citizens, such as rewarding selective collection and sanctioning otherwise under the slogan "Whoever pollutes pays".
Throughout the conference were recalled the European objectives of recycling of municipal waste that includes the European Strategy in waste management: 50% in 2020, 55% in 2025, 60% in 2030 and 65% in 2035. Also remembered other measures to be taken such as avoiding the purchase of plastic cutlery, reducing the use of food containers and plastic cups, as well as the prohibition of the free delivery of plastic bags from July 1, 2018, Royal Decree 293/2018 on plastic bags, except for bags with a minimum thickness (like those of fruit in supermarkets).
The conference was held at the innovation center The Circular Lab, which aspires to become an international reference in the field of packaging and its subsequent recycling;
a container innovation laboratory that seeks to study, conceive, test and apply in a real environment the best practices, in a framework of collaboration between companies, public administrations and citizens.
