The Plenary Session of the City Council of San Javier unanimously approved, at the proposal of the Festival management, the awarding of the prize to "an extraordinary musician, virtuoso of the piano and composer of classical themes that are already jazz standards such as Spain, La Fiesta or Windows "
Nieto explained that beyond the 20 Grammys awards, the Hall of Fame or the NEA Jazz Master, with which Chick Corea has been professionally recognized, Jazz San Javier wants to recognize with this award the bond between Chick Corea and Spain, both emotionally and professional.
With past Spanish past, Chick Corea has been very linked to Spain and its music.
He was a close friend of Paco de Lucía, with whom he played on multiple occasions.
