The monitoring of 24 hours and the current technification in the work of control and maintenance of the pumping stations in La Manga del Mar Menor show certainty and confidence in the correct functioning of the system during the summer season, said this morning the mayor José Miguel Luengo that visited next to the Councilor of Public Services, Maria Dolores Ruiz pump stations No. 5 and No. 6 to check the proper functioning of the sanitation infrastructure "in which they have invested more than two million euros in recent years, "recalled Luengo.
Luis Fernando Zamora, operations manager of the UTE Aquambiente Hidrogea, awarded the maintenance of the pumping stations of La Manga, accompanied them in the visit to station No. 6, the largest capacity of La Manga.
Luis Fernando Zamora said that "it is not a punctual summer job" but that the work of monitoring and improvement of the stations is carried out throughout the year.
He recalled that a new pump has recently been added to station No. 5, according to the commitment to improvement included in the contract, and was confident that "the remote control of the facilities, constant monitoring and intensification of cleaning "They will avoid or minimize any incidence.
The mayor and the Councilor for Public Services also visited pumping station No. 5, where a new system has been launched against the problem of bad odors that after five months of operation is already working, in the station which was more problematic in this regard.
The measurement of sulfides at the beginning gave a result of 60 parts per million of sulfuric acid in the environment and is currently between 10 and 15 parts per million, as explained by Juan Antonio Vázquez, director for Spain and Portugal of the company NCH that develops For the first time this technique in La Manga del Mar Menor.
José Miguel Luengo highlighted the effort he is making to improve the conditions of the pumping stations and therefore of neighbors and visitors, who go from about 7,000 to more than 100,000, to avoid this type of incident.
With this objective, we turned to the company NCH that has the world patent for this biological system that in an ecological way degrades the organic compounds contained in the sanitation system generating sulfuric acid, preventing these bad smells from leaving the public space.
Luengo explained that in addition to the objective data indicating improvement, those responsible for the implementation of this system have found among the neighbors near the station a clear improvement in terms of the incidence of bad odor that can sometimes cause the pumping station .
Luengo stressed that the system is still susceptible to improvement and highlighted the fact that continuous monitoring is being carried out to optimize a technique that is planned to incorporate other pumping stations.
