A Roman third will set the stage for the Festival opening with a comedy version of "Ben-Hur" starring Eva Isanta and Agustín Jiménez (30/07/2018)

The Festival that begins on Wednesday, August 1 will be extended, with 17 regional premiere shows, until August 24

A third Roman will animate the streets of San Javier and the entrance to the Almansa Park auditorium to set the first performance of the 49th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier that will start with the play "Ben-Hur" next Wednesday, the 1st August.

The Festival, which runs until August 24, includes a total of 17 shows, of which 13 will be theater, two of them outside the auditorium, two of music and two of dance, among which is "Sombras" by dancer Sara Baras, who will receive the 2018 Festival Award

The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the general director of the Institute for Cultural Industries and the Arts, Marta López-Briones and the Festival director and Councilor for Culture, David Martínez presented today at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture, in Murcia, the beginning of the Festival that starts with three of the program's shows sold almost completely, an increase in the number of subscribers that goes from 150 to 200 and a forecast of 20,000 spectators, three thousand more than in the last edition, according to the mayor.

David Martinez announced the presence of a third Roman, coming from the Holy Week of San Pedro del Pinatar, to acclimate the Roman Empire in occupied Jerusalem where the story of Ben Hur takes place with which the Festival will open on August 1.

The presence of the Romans will be felt in the Plaza de España at 9:30 p.m. and on the way to the auditorium, along Maestre street, where they will continue to be present until the beginning of the performance.

"Ben Hur" has triumphed at the Mérida Festival and guarantees laughs and fun with the Yllana label.

Nancho Novo signs the theater adaptation of Lewis Wallace's novel in "teatromascope" with a cast headed by Eva Isanta and Agustín Jiménez.

The theater group San Javier, which is part of the history of the Festival since its creation in 1969, will premiere Jean Anouilh's "Orquesta de Señoritas" directed by Orlando Gabriel Panizzoli, on Tuesday, August 7.

A day later you can see "Nobody was given poison in laughter", a phrase by Lope de Vega that will lead to a theatrical improvisation show with "Impromadrid".

One of the most anticipated works about to hang the "complete" poster, is Filoctetes, by Sophocles, starring Pedro Casablanc, Pepe Viyuela and Félix Gómez, in the version of Jordi Casanovas and directed by Antonio Simón that has managed to captivate the review in Mérida.

The first musical mouthful will arrive on Saturday August 11 with Martirio and Javier Rubial.

The children and family audience will have an appointment on Sunday August 12 with The Mousetrap Theater that will present "The local history of the Sleeping Beauty".

On Tuesday, August 14, the Festival will go to the Plaza de España with a free circus contemporary show "A S'ombra" from the Balearic company Atirofijo Circ.

Another work with almost sold-out tickets is "Amazonas", which will arrive in San Javier on August 15, a few days after its premiere in Mérida with a stellar cast featuring Loles León, Silvia Abascal, Maxi Iglesias, Olivia Molina, and Laura Pamplona among other actors.

With laughter guaranteed, the work recreates in a humorous tone the feminine myth of warrior women who choose sex without love in order to procreate and continue to increase the tribe.

On August 16 the music returns with a tribute to Celtic music in two hands between Jordi Savall and the piper Carlos Núñez and his "Celtic Dialogues".

La Cuadra, from Seville, a company linked to the history of the Festival where he premiered several of his productions, returns on August 17 with "Quejío", one of the works that passed through San Javier and which, as an archaeological theatrical piece, has replaced, 45 years later, a show that marked a before and after in the Spanish theater and the vision of the postcard Andalusia existing until then.

Another appointment not to miss is the August 19 with the national premiere of "Lehman Trilogy" an ambitious proposal by Sergio Peris-Mencheta that will make season at the Teatros del Canal, in Madrid, with this piece of three hours, which will have two breaks, in which narrates the rise and fall of the Lehman family as a metaphor for capitalism.

As always, the Festival co-produces a work with Murcian companies, and in this edition it does so with La Ferroviaria, which will premiere "Antígona" directed by Paco Maciá and starring Eloísa Azorín.

Theater, music and humor is the letter of presentation of Ron Lalá, one of the most relevant companies of the current scene of Spanish theater that will arrive on August 23 with "Crimen y cuón", which begins with the death of the theater and an investigation into that we will all be suspects.

The Festival will say goodbye, in all probability, with the "Complete" sign, since at this point there are hardly any tickets to see the dancer "Sara Baras" who returns to San Javier on August 24, with her show "Sombras" with which he celebrates 20 years of his own company.

Sara Baras will receive the Prize of the 49th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier.

Festival director David Martínez highlighted the variety of the program not only to include three performing arts but also in each one of them, such as theater, dance or music, with which he has sought to thrill and reach the public he invited. to not miss the opportunity to enjoy culture in San Javier.

The general director of the ICA, Marta López Briones, praised the level of cultural offer of San Javier "which becomes the cultural capital of the country" and thanked his effort to encourage and support Murcia theater while announcing a new helpline of the regional government that will be launched from September to finance theatrical productions Murcia.

The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo, who recalled that it is a "one hundred percent municipal management" festival, noted the effort made "not only to maintain but encourage and stimulate this legacy that celebrates 49 years" and announced a celebration special of the 50th anniversary of the Festival in 2019 "in which we are already working".
