The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has deployed, during the past week (from November 26 to December 2) and coinciding with the festivities of the municipality of San Javier, a broad simultaneous device for checking alcohol and drugs on different roads of the Region of Murcia, in order to comply with the control plan for leisure areas and with the Road Safety Strategy 2010-2020 of the General Directorate of Traffic.

In the device, framed in the Operative Plan of Police Response to Traffic and Consumption of drugs in leisure and amusement areas and in the Traffic Safety Strategy 2010-2020 of the General Directorate of Traffic, more than a hundred agents of the Traffic Sector of the Civil Guard of Murcia that have controlled a total of 3,817 drivers, of which 76 yielded positive results in alcohol (2%), 14 of which were arrested and brought to justice and the remaining 62 reported to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters of Murcia.

They have also been reported to the Provincial Traffic Authority 41 drivers for having taken illegal drugs or substances prohibited and incompatible with the driving of vehicles (cocaine, cannabis, opiates and amphetamines).

In particular, several devices deployed on the roads near the town of San Javier, destination of many people who gathered there for the celebration of their patron saint, where they made about a quarter of alcohol and drug tests (938) of which 47 were positive results in alcohol (5%), having been arrested four drivers for alcohol, who were brought to court, and 43 others reported to the Provincial Traffic Headquarters of Murcia.

In addition, seven drivers were reported for showing a positive result in drug use.

With these actions, the Benemérita persists in making the population aware of the incompatibility of the consumption of alcoholic beverages and drugs with the driving of vehicles and thus avoid the occurrence of traffic accidents.

Driving a motor vehicle or moped with an alcohol level in exhaled air exceeding 0.60 mg / l, leads to the arrest of the driver, for alleged crime against road safety, punishable by prison terms of 3 to 6 months or fine of 6 to 12 months or work for the benefit of the community from 31 to 90 days, and in any case the deprivation of the permit for a period of 1 to 4 years.

On the other hand the driving of motor vehicles or mopeds with alcohol rates higher than 0.25 mg / l (0.15 mg / l, novice drivers and professionals) and up to 0.60 mg / l, following the recent reform of the Road Safety Law, supposes an economic sanction of up to € 1000 and the loss of up to 6 points of the driving license.

In cases of drug detection in the salivary test, drivers are required to provide a second oral fluid sample for referral to an accredited laboratory that contrasts the interim result.

In all cases, the affected vehicles are immobilized by the Civil Guard until their drivers are able to continue traveling, or when a second person, qualified for driving, takes charge of it.

Likewise, the Benemérita continues to reiterate its message to those drivers who recklessly and recklessly, despite the campaigns and warnings of the General Directorate of Traffic, drive after having drunk or taken drugs, remembering that, without prejudice to the systematic realization of ordinary or special preventive controls, the mandatory alcohol and drug tests will be carried out on all drivers who are reported for the commission of infractions, involved in accidents or those in which their consumption is detected in the course of other surveillance activities. inspection, intensifying during the next bridge of the Constitution and Christmas holidays.

Between December 10 and 16, the General Directorate of Traffic will carry out an intensive alcohol and drug verification campaign on all roads in the national territory, with the aim of making citizens aware of the incompatibility of these substances with the driving and reduce the accident rate derived from its consumption.
