The Plenary of the City of San Javier held today unanimously approved the start of the file for the award of the 50th International Festival of Theater, Music and Dance of San Javier to the actress and stage director Nuria Espert, at the proposal of the Councilor for Culture and Festival director David Martínez.
The person in charge of the Festival highlighted the importance of having such a prominent name in the Spanish performing arts as Nuria Espert for the 50th Anniversary Award of the San Javier Festival, for which the actress has already passed works such as "El cerco de Leningrad "in a memorable performance with the actress María Jesús Valdés.
In her latest work "Romancero Gitano" directed by Lluis Pasqual, premiered last autumn in Madrid, Nuria Espert returns again to Federico García Lorca who has been so present throughout his long career with titles like "Yerma" or "Doña Rosita the Single "that she took on international tours around the world.
Nuria Espert, who is in possession of a multitude of awards, received along with Fernando Fernán Gómez the National Theater Award granted by the Ministry of Culture in 1986. She was director of the National Drama Center, together with José Luis Gómez and Ramón Tamayo, from 1979 until his resignation in 1981.
In addition to the interpretation, the direction is another of her great passions that along with her love for opera led her to acclaimed productions such as "Madam Butterfly", "Elektra" "La Traviata" or "Carmen", in great theaters inside and outside of Spain.
Nuria Espert has more than 60 years of theater career in which she has represented the most important authors of the world theater and participated in international projects for which she is known and respected as one of the great women of contemporary theater.
