The counselor of Education Adela Martínez-Cachá visited yesterday evening the school "La Paz", in San Javier, on the occasion of the incorporation of the center to the school reinforcement program that has started the counseling to help with extra classes for students who they need it.

The program, which benefits 15,000 students, compared to 7,000 in the previous year, in 280 schools in the region, was initially aimed at students in 6th grade and 4th year of ESO, although this year has been added to 4th year of primary school and 2nd of ESO, "which were courses with a high rate of failure", explained the counselor.

Adela Martínez-Cachá, who was accompanied by the acting mayor, Teresa Foncuberta and the Councilor for Education, Catalina Pérez, highlighted that 80 percent of the students in the reinforcement program in July managed to pass the exams in September.

"It is a contrasted program that is working," said the minister who recalled that only the Region of Murcia and Castilla-Leon have launched this program in which the council has invested 8 million euros.

The program is carried out with volunteer teachers from the center itself and interns in which case the needs of each school can not be met, explained Martínez-Cachá.

The director of the school "La Paz", José Manuel Cánovas highlighted the good functioning of the reinforcement program in the center, where it works since the beginning of the course.

"In the first evaluation, 70 percent of students passed the language and mathematics", which are the subjects of reinforcement.

The students are selected by the tutors according to their results in both subjects.

At the moment two professors attend to 8 students of 4º and 10 students of 6º with classes of reinforcement in afternoon schedule.

José Manuel Cánovas added that, in addition, the school collaborates with the Association of Parents and the Bank of Time in a similar initiative with 3rd and 5th year students.
