The Los Arcos Mental Health Unit and the San Javier Library come together to bring mental health to society (08/02/2019)

The library will host a series of lectures under the title "Reading to think, think to live" from books introduced by professionals from the Mental Health Unit and some of its authors, from February to June

The Unit of Mental Health of the University Hospital Los Arcos and the library of San Javier have organized a series of "informal" talks based on books related to mental health.

The objective of this initiative, which has been called "Read to think, think to live", is to bring mental health to the community in a transversal way, explained the psychiatrist Felix Crespo who presented the cycle with the councilor of Culture, David Martínez and the library coordinator of San Javier, Toni Díaz, at the City Hall of San Javier.

The talks will be open and directed by professionals of Area 8 Mar Menor of Mental Health who will begin speaking about a title to introduce a colloquium with the attendees.

The cycle will start on Wednesday February 13 with "The woman who did not want to love.

And other stories about the unconscious ", by Stephen Grosz, an English psychologist who compiles a series of small clinical stories, with María Muñoz, clinical psychologist and Felix Crespo, psychiatrist, as speakers.

The appointments, which will take place on the second Wednesday of the month, from February to June, at 7:00 p.m., will revolve around other titles such as "The barbarians: essay on mutation", by Alessandro Baricco, which deals with themes diverse that are not pathologies but that arrive at the consultations, like the adolescence, explained Félix Crespo.

The writer Miguel Ángel Hernández will come to talk about his novel "The pain of others", title chosen for the project "A city, a book" this year by the library of San Javier, in which the author novels a crime committed by his best friend, who after killing his sister, commits suicide

Finally, the journalist Sergio González will attend with other professionals from the Los Arcos Mental Health Unit to talk about his autobiographical book about suicide "Última carta.

For the psychiatrist Felix Crespo, this initiative in collaboration with the library will be "one more step to get closer to the community" after the start-up of the Los Arcos Mental Health Unit and framed it within "a more modern vision of the mental health through non-clinical interventions ".

The Councilor for Culture, David Martinez congratulated the promoters of the initiative and the library for "this innovative activity in the Region of Murcia" and invited the participation convinced that "it will be enriching and useful for all."

The library coordinator, Toni Díaz, informed that all the titles provided for in the cycle are available for loan in the library.
