The Local Police of San Javier is carrying out an information and control campaign on pets that are in parks and public roads of the municipality to verify that they have installed the obligatory microchip.
On the first day of this citizen awareness campaign, the agents controlled ten dogs of which three did not carry the microchip.
In those cases the agents are informing their bearers of the obligation by law to install the microchip on pets such as dogs, cats and ferrets and they are given a period of 15 days to proceed with their placement.
The Local Police will periodically repeat this campaign of citizen control and awareness to raise awareness among pet owners of the benefits of this measure, such as the quick location of the owner of a lost pet.
The microchip is a numerical identification mechanism the size of a grain of rice that is implanted under the skin of the pet being painless and innocuous.
It is the only way to identify the animal since it is associated with a regional database, so that in case of loss, the animal can be located upon arrival at any clinic or protective.
It also serves to hold owners responsible by avoiding the voluntary abandonment of pets.
