The Autonomous Community and the City of San Javier promote measures to promote the service of public interest of the taxi, which is essential in a tourist environment, to adequately meet the mobility needs of visitors, encourage connectivity of the municipality and the environment of the Sleeve.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, and the Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, met today with the professionals of the taxi sector of the municipality, consisting of 18 licenses, to analyze their situation after the closure of commercial activity from the San Javier airport and before the challenges that arise in the face of the tourist season.
Valverde and Luengo listened to their proposals with the aim of including them in the text of the collaboration agreement being finalized by the regional government and the City Council to encourage a service of public interest that is essential for the locality.
Valverde said that "San Javier is a tourist town that generates opportunities," adding that taxi drivers "are a key sector to follow the path of growth of the municipality, the Mar Menor, La Manga and its surroundings."
For all this, an agreement is being promoted to "respond to a unique and exceptional situation caused by the closure of the airport infrastructure and facilitate the adaptation of the taxi sector to the new reality of the municipality".
The measures will be directed towards the diversification of activity, the search for new opportunities, the promotion of tourism in the municipality and the opening of new market spaces.
