The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde and the Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo met today at the City of San Javier with the president of Union Radio Taxi Mar Menor of San Javier, José Luis Pascual and other professionals from the sector to jointly analyze the situation of the taxi sector in the municipality after the closure of commercial activity at the San Javier airport.
The counselor Patricio Valverde, who recognized the "extraordinary situation that occurs in San Javier for the closure and transfer of the airport to a neighboring municipality," he explained at the end of the meeting, which will now work together to develop a series of conclusions that allow the implementation of a series of "compensatory measures" to alleviate "the loss of 30 percent of their services by not having the airport."
The current demand for the taxi, the opening of new market spaces, and the modernization of the sector with new technologies that allow the implementation of a mobile application with maximum rates in services, have been on the table at the meeting this morning when it comes to articulating those compensatory measures that would affect the 18 licenses of the sector in the municipality.
José Luis Pascual, president of Union Radio-Taxi Mar Menor San Javier, thanked the willingness of the Administrations to support the sector and noted that "the compensatory measures so that we are not so harmed are open to several guidelines that must be further studied and qualifying "and valued topics addressed in the meeting as the application at the local level of the mobile application, the expansion of work areas and exploitation of new niches such as golf courses.
The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo, who has always defended the compensation of San Javier taxi drivers harmed by the closure of the airport, assessed the will of all parties throughout the meetings that have been held on this occasion and He was convinced that he could conclude with a series of measures that would empower the sector "and turn the crisis into an opportunity".
In the meeting held today at the City of San Javier also participated part of the team of the Minister of Public Works and the Councilor for Transport of the City of San Javier, Antonio Martínez.
