A total of 24 children with special learning needs from Aidemar and the open classroom of the "Joaquín Carrión" school in San Javier are participating in a dog-assisted education project that was launched a month ago and is already showing good results. according to the people in charge who visited one of the sessions at the "Joaquín Carrión" school.
The initiative, promoted by the Department of Education of the City of San Javier, is developed by the Fundación Tio Vivo, which is dedicated to animal therapy and the Murcia therapeutic dog association, with funding from the Obra Social laCaixa, whose director, Alberto Sanchez today announced the acquisition of a new dog "that will expand the number of children who benefit from these therapies in the municipality of San Javier."
The Councilor for Education of San Javier, Catalina Pérez, the director of laCaixa Social Work, Alberto Sánchez, the president of the Tio Vivo Foundation, Luis Cuenca and the school's director, Toni García Arias, shared a session in the open classroom today from the center, where several children affected by autism and a Down girl, received "happy" Bimba, the dog that serves as motivation and facilitates the participation and learning of children in sessions similar to those usually received in the classroom.
The presence of the dog, which becomes the guiding thread of the day's teachings, is what makes the difference, explains Luis Cuenca.
For the director of the Toni García Arias center, this type of animal therapy provides the children with much more experience learning and improves their interaction with the environment ".
The edile of Education, Catalina Pérez thanked the disposition of the Obra Social laCaixa and the Fundación Tio Vivo, who did not hesitate in the implementation of this project that are being of great help both for Aidemar and for the children of the open classroom of the CEIP "Joaquín Carrión."
The head of the Social Work laCaixa, Alberto Sanchez said "the pride" for the entity to revert our work to society especially with projects like this aimed at children with special needs.
The sessions with "Bimba" are repeated every week, on Mondays with the group of the open classroom of the CEIP "Joaquín Carrión" and on Fridays with the two groups that receive it in Aidemar.
The activity has technicians from the Fundación Tio Vivo who work in coordination with the staff of each center.
