The Autonomous Community supports the taxi drivers of the municipality of San Javier with a subsidy of 180,000 euros to promote the professional activity of the sector and contribute to tourism in the municipality, the Mar Menor and La Manga.
The one of the taxi is one of the most affected services by the closing of the commercial activity of the airport of San Javier.
The economic contribution will be distributed by the city council among the 18 licensees.
The objective is to encourage the reorganization of the sector, facilitate its adaptation to the current situation and contribute to the diversification of its activity to promote the connectivity of the municipality, the Mar Menor and the surroundings of La Manga.
All this to respond to the new challenges that arise in the face of the tourist season.
To that end, the Minister of Development and Infrastructure in office, Patricio Valverde, and the acting mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, today signed a collaboration agreement that includes a series of actions to support the sector and prevent their interests they are harmed.
Valverde stressed that "San Javier is a municipality with a great future projection, so we continue to offer our full support to taxi professionals to undertake, expand services and make it all easier for them."
Among the actions proposed by the Community, the City Council and representatives of the sector is to articulate a process of diversification of the activity of the taxi sector with more and new services in order to grow and be more competitive.
In this regard, the creation of a computer application, available for mobile phones, will be promoted to facilitate users directly contracting their services from the telephone.
In the agreement signed between the regional and local administrations another priority action is indicated: the search for new opportunities that allow taxi drivers to adapt the business introducing improvements that bring them closer to the new needs of users.
Another measure is the empowerment of the sector, essential in a tourist environment such as San Javier, which offers visitors access to the Mar Menor and La Manga.
It also requires actions aimed at opening new market niches and strengthening the activity of the taxi sector.
