El bolillo will return to the street in San Javier next Saturday, June 8, on the occasion of the XV Encuentro de Encajeras de Bolillo organized by the local Association ABOMAR and the Department of Culture of the City of San Javier.
More than a hundred lace makers will carry out their works in full view of the public in the Plaza de España from 10am, as well as contemplating in detail the pieces already finished that will be exhibited in the lobby of the City Hall of San Javier.
Groups from Cartagena, Pilar de la Horadada and Torrevieja will participate in the Meeting, as well as the region of Mar Menor and other points of the region that will be used to exchange knowledge, designs and new ideas in this difficult art of embroidery that fans attribute also relaxing powers despite their apparent difficulty.
The local association ABOMAR, of San Javier, active for 22 years, is formed by 45 fans of San Javier who meet twice a week at its headquarters located in the civic center "Parque Almansa" of San Javier, where they also attend Amateur from other neighboring municipalities interested in the bolillo.
The headquarters is open to anyone willing to learn this type of embroidery that emerged in the sixteenth century and that after the appearance of the textile machinery is maintained thanks to artisan groups of fans such as those who will meet on Saturday in San Javier.
