The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo and the president of the Association of Relatives and Friends of Alzheimer's patients of Cartagena and Region, AFAL, María José Regueiro signed the renewal of the collaboration agreement maintained by both institutions to carry out activities, of general help to those affected and their environment as well as social awareness towards the disease, in the municipality of San Javier.
Through the aforementioned agreement, the City Council of San Javier will contribute 2,500 euros to AFAL, which also has a municipal office on the top floor of the Senior Center, in Santiago de la Ribera.
AFAL offers physiotherapy treatment as well as specialized psychological and speech therapy services three days a week at its headquarters in Santiago de la Ribera, where 25 people regularly attend.
Among other activities, the AFAL staff also carries out prevention actions such as memory workshops in the Centers for the Elderly of the municipality with great success of participation, explained María José Regueiro.
The Association also works with the families and caregivers to whom a training course that has just been closed has been directed, for which they have had the collaboration of the Employment and Training Service, SEF.
