A total of seven teams composed of people belonging to associations affected by mental illness from different parts of the Region and another from Aidemar will participate in the 1st Dragon Boat Championship to be held next Wednesday, June 26 at Barnuevo Beach, Santiago de la Ribera, organized by the Association of relatives and people affected by the mental illness of the Mar Menor (AFEMAR), the canoeing club Mar Menor and the Department of Sports of the City of San Javier.
The Councilor for Sports, Sergio Martinez accompanied by David López, AFEMAR sports coach and the association's vice president, José Sánchez, presented today at San Javier City Hall this "pioneer race in and out of the Region" with the presence of training Cieza, Cartagena, Santa Ana, Cehegín, Abanilla, Totana, the host group of Afemar, and Aidemar that has also joined the initiative.
The regatta will start at 10am in boats of 10 members with a drum and helmsman and distances of 200 meters in a straight line.
The award ceremony is scheduled on the beach at 1:00 p.m., according to David López, who recalled Afemar's goals of rehabilitating and integrating people with disabilities through actions such as this regatta "with which we intend to promote the values ​​of sport and which is framed in the X anniversary of AFEMAR although we intend to institutionalize it so that it is celebrated annually ".
Sports Councilman, Sergio Martinez showed municipal support for this type of integrative initiatives through sports and congratulated AFEMAR and the Canoe Club for the work they have done to make the Championship a success.
Martinez invited the public to follow the regatta from Barnuevo beach, in the section next to the AGA.
