The Local Council for Children and Adolescents of San Javier dedicated its last meeting of the course, held on June 24, to Gender Equality, one of the topics set for study in the plenary session held by the Council.
The members of the Council met with the Councilors for Women and Equality of Opportunities, Ana Belén Martínez and Social Rights, Estíbaliz Masegosa as well as technical staff from both councils to learn first-hand the existing resources in the municipality on equality and defense of women's rights.
At the meeting held a brainstorm to collect proposals on possible actions on equality, among children and youth represented in the Council, know their needs and interests and be taken into account from the Administration.
Among many other proposals the members of the Local Council for Children and Adolescents thought about collecting with a hidden camera the reaction of the public to see that in a football game the participation of the girls is denied.
They also proposed creating mixed soccer teams and asked to promote the female figure in the sport.
In addition to using social networks to promote equality, they also proposed direct actions such as having all the children and boys go to their school one day with a doll and the girls with a toy associated with the male gender.
They also asked that brands and stores do not distinguish toys by sex but by age.
The children asked to participate in the 8M with a play that shows adults the theme of equality and design a campaign in favor of equality in the municipality.
It also occurred to them that a school or extracurricular activity in schools related to equality could be helpful.
