Mayor José Miguel Luengo and the Councilor for Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz, visited this morning the works of the first phase of renovation of the Spanish Aviation Avenue, in San Javier, which include the streets Calderón de la Barca and Andrés Baquero, which will be completed next November as announced by the mayor after checking the development of them.
The works of modification of public spaces and renovation of all urban services under criteria of accessibility and improvement of energy efficiency, include the burial of aerial electricity and telecommunications networks and a rainwater collection network separated from the sewerage system.
The total amount of the project amounts to 1,048,000.40 euros and is part of the Integrative Sustainable Urban Development Strategy of San Javier, EDUSI San Javier “Horizon 2022, a Living Cityâ€, funded by the European Fund for Sustainable Development ( FEDER) at 80 percent.
Mayor José Miguel Luengo said that the project "is much more than a work because it is part of a transformation process through the improvement of mobility, sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental care."
Luengo highlighted the municipal commitment to a “rainwater separative network, so that in all the actions we carry out, a rainwater collection pipe will be included that will go to the sewage treatment plant and the rolling tanks, separating it from the sanitation network which is insufficient in episodes of heavy rain â€.
Luengo added that the separation of rainwater collection will be another step in the care of the Mar Menor and the natural environment, along with other measures included in the project such as the replacement of sodium vapor by LED technology in lighting, the placement of charging points for electric vehicles and the containment of road traffic giving priority to the pedestrian.
For this, areas will be created in which the modification of the road, with a single platform, the use of trees and street furniture will control the traffic, forcing the speed to be reduced in order to continue the route.
This will happen in the square that will be created in front of the Almansa park, at the conjunction of the Spanish Aviation Avenue and Andrés Baquero, where a large traffic of people is generated when a school center, the Conservatory and the new Almansa Park meet, where it will be built a closed theater, and whose works, also included in the EDUSI Sustainable Urban Development Strategy, will begin before the end of the year, the mayor announced.
José Miguel Luengo also announced that the second phase of the works, which will include the extension of the bike lane, which ends at the roundabout of the Local Police headquarters and that will reach the Almansa park, is scheduled to begin in the spring of the next.
With the execution of that second phase, the project that includes other integration and accessibility actions of disadvantaged neighborhoods such as the San Francisco Javier neighborhood that connects the avenue with the back of Almansa Park, where it has already acted with the renovation of urban services will be completed that give continuity to the rest of the actions.
