The City Council of San Javier today held an extraordinary plenary session in which a motion has been approved by Mayor José Miguel Luengo and signed by all municipal political groups, in which the Government of the Nation is requested "the immediate declaration of the area seriously affected by civil protection emergency, and especially through the corresponding Royal Decrees-Law, to alleviate in a coordinated and effective manner the situation of catastrophic zone that is lived in the municipality of San Javier ".
The motion indicates that "the enormous seriousness of the material damages produced, with the consequent impact on the economic activity of the municipality, make the approval of exceptions standards essential" and recalls that in San Javier 220 liters per square meter were recorded and in La Manga del Mar Menor up to 340 liters per square meter.
The text recalls the "serious personal and material damage" caused by the storm, both in private goods and in goods, facilities and public services, as well as in agricultural holdings, in the 40 kilometers of coast of the municipal term and in municipal, autonomous infrastructure and even of state ownership.
The motion, which describes the recent floods as "one of the most serious catastrophes in the history of San Javier", appeals to the main constitutional solidarity between administrations and requests the adoption of measures that contribute to the gradual restoration of normalcy in the municipality.
For this, it asks for the collaboration and coordination of the central, regional and local Administration that guarantees the prompt execution of said measures and determines their financing.
Mayor José Miguel Luengo highlighted the union of all political groups represented in the Plenary from the first moment the alert was known and thanked the work of municipal officials, of all Civil Security and Protection bodies, and in a special way of the solidarity movement that mobilized hundreds of people who have worked throughout the weekend to accelerate the recovery of normalcy in the municipality, as well as to the companies of the municipality that contributed human and material resources to the aid device.
In the same terms of thanks, the spokesmen of all the municipal groups who also highlighted, such as the spokeswoman for the PSOE, Laura Cristinta Gil, have pronounced the importance of the prevention work carried out by the administrations and the responsible attitude of the neighbors.
From Citizens, Víctor Pérez sent a message of hope while pointing out the need for an investment plan for the entire Levant to face these episodes of heavy rains while from VOX, Rafael Vílchez made an offer to continue working on the work of normalization of the situation for those affected.
