Dream and reality in the cemetery of San Javier â€will celebrate its fifth edition, on October 28, with the Cemeteries of Spain Award in the Best Open Door Activity modality that will be delivered on October 26 in Zaragoza, and that will involve the Inclusion of the cemetery of San Javier in the tourist guide “Route of Cemeteries of Spainâ€, recommending your visit at the end of October coinciding with the representation of the famous work of Zorrilla as a unique event in Spain.
The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo and the Councilor for Culture David Martínez, accompanied by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, María Casajús, presented this morning at the Romea Theater in Murcia the representation of “Don Juan Tenorio†in charge of the San Javier Theater Group, which includes a first part with a tour of the interior of the cemetery that this year will feature as a novelty the gang of the Auroros of Rincón de Seca that will open the path followed for the first time by an image of the Virgin del Carmen, patron saint of the Blessed Beasts of Purgatory, flanked by Death and Souls.
The tour inside the cemetery will release new lighting effects in the twilight, with thousands of candles, and will feature the live music of the Orfeón Fernández Caballero, from Murcia;
the Patnia coral, from San Pedro del Pinatar;
the Ars Antiqua choir, from Torre Pacheco and the Stella Maris Björk choir, from San Javier, with the collaboration of the San Javier Professional Conservatory of Music and the Friends of Bethlehem Association, of San Javier, which is responsible for the scenography inside the cemetery.
More than 200 people, including figurative volunteers, participate in a “shocking show that seeks to thrill the public,†said Councilor for Culture, David Martinez.
The 1,2000 people, who each year have filled the available capacity as expected in this edition, will travel in time with the interior tour of the cemetery that will introduce them in the Seville of Carlos V and the contemporary Imperial Spain of Don Juan before of witnessing the theatrical performance that takes place next to the cemetery, outside the enclosure.
The actress Laura Maestro, who gives life to Doña Inés, advanced novelties in the scenery that will continue to have live dance, music and lyric singing.
During the presentation of the show, Maestro explained that the work, shortened but faithful to the original text, revolves around the repentance and redemption of the quarrelsome Don Juan thanks to the pure love of Doña Inés, focusing on the deepest side of the character.
The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo highlighted “the consolidation†of this initiative promoted five years ago by David Martínez when he was not yet a councilor of the City of San Javier “which has now been endorsed by this national award and the response of the public that it has filled the full capacity in the five editions â€.
For Luengo it is "a mandatory date for culture lovers, a unique show in Spain."

The mayor of Culture announced the collaboration of the scenographer Ángel Haro "who will visit us to contribute new ideas in the interior scenery of the cemetery for next year."
The prize that has just received this initiative in the national contest called by the “Adiós Cultural†magazine has among its objectives to claim the cemeteries as “places full of life, and memory of the people who inhabited them as a very important part of the city which must be preserved and valued â€, in addition to“ recognizing the historical, social, environmental and artistic and patrimonial interest of Spanish cemeteries â€.
San Javier competed with five other cemeteries in Spain and has won the victory by popular vote receiving 1019 votes against 712 of the second classified in its category.
The prize money will be 1000 euros to be delivered to the cemetery owned by the Parish of San Javier whose collaboration thanked the municipal officials.
