Today, the Mar Menor region has taken another step in improving the care of people with mental disorders and drug addicts with the signing of a Protocol of Social and Health Care between the Murcia Health Service, the municipalities of the region and social entities from the area like Afemar, Aidemar and Prometheus.
The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, the mayors of Torre Pacheco, Los Alcázares and the mayor of San Pedro del Pinatar, Visitación Martínez signed today at the Hospital Los Arcos del Mar Menor the Protocol whose main objective is the coordination between Administrations , health services and society to promote improvement in the care of people with severe mental disorder and / or drug dependence (TMG-D).
The general director of Planning, Research, Pharmacy and Citizen Care, María Teresa Martínez justified the implementation of this Protocol in the need for joint support to these patients whose needs are not covered only with health care.
The commission of the Area of ​​Social and Health Coordination that was established after the signature and of which representatives of the health area, mayors and representatives of the social entities of Area VIII of Health are involved: Afemar, Aidemar and Prometeo, will meet in certain cases to coordinate both municipal and health teams to give an individualized and adjusted response to each case.
The day concluded with the presentation of the Protocol and conclusions by the Mental Health Manager, Asunción de Concepción Salesa, which was followed by a round table in which the importance of socio-sanitary coordination as a tool for mental health work was deepened. to end the presentation of two cases in one of which the legal CAVI of San Javier, Africa Escudero intervened.
The experience that San Javier accumulates, which has been a pioneer municipality in networking in Social Services, was also addressed in the day with the intervention of the coordinator of the San Javier Social Services Center, Alicia Balsalobre.
The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo pointed out the importance of this Protocol that will improve care in our municipality and in the region, to people with severe mental disorders and drug dependence focusing on the person as a center of attention.
Luengo noted the multidisciplinary vision provided by the Protocol signed today and the direct participation of associations involved in mental disorder and drug dependence in the region.
