The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, today read an institutional manifesto on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women "with which we want to record our social commitment to this fight, which must be joint against any act that threatens the dignity of women. "
Before more than a hundred people who gathered in the Plaza de España to keep a minute of silence for the victims, José Miguel Luengo said that "abuse is not a private matter, it is a social problem that is fought with tolerance zero to any violent and macho behavior. "
All attendees had a special memory for the 51 women and 2 children who have been killed so far this year as well as the 41 orphaned children because of these deaths.
In the manifesto, the mayor of San Javier, who was accompanied by the Councilor for Women, Ana Belén Martínez and several members of the Municipal Corporation, recalled "the importance of not remaining impassive before the barbarism that plagues us every day" and remarked that It is "a matter of state that affects all people."
The minute of silence was broken by a performance with a cello quartet from the San Javier Conservatory of Music and a dancer from the School of Jesus Quiles.
In the same act, which ended with a distribution of plants, as a symbol of life and hope, a group of women read several texts of the micro-stories contest against gender violence organized each year by the Department of Women, before inaugurating a mural where the public wrote messages of condemnation of violence against women, of support for victims and encouragement to put an end to that situation.
The events held on the occasion of the 25N and organized by the Department of Women and the Center for Comprehensive Assistance to Women Victims of Violence Machista, CAVI San Javier, began last Saturday in the Plaza of Spain with an artistic action in which women participated of all ages performing allegorical choreographies composed by Ruth Olmos, Judith Arteaga and Verónica Muñoz.
