The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo collected today in Murcia from the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Environment, Antonio Luengo, the Green Flag that recognizes the municipality of San Javier as the winner of the campaign "Banderas Movement Green".
The campaign organized by Ecovidrio rewards the collection of glass containers during the summer season taking into account the quantity of containers collected, the number of participating hospitality establishments and the municipal dissemination of the campaign itself.
San Javier, which competed with the rest of the municipalities of the Murcian coast, thus becomes one of the 9 Spanish municipalities awarded the Green Flag among the 140 municipalities throughout the country that have participated in the campaign.
Roberto Fuentes, Ecovidrio area manager, reported that San Javier managed to recycle 380 tons of glass containers with a participation of 206 bars and beach bars, more than 90 percent of the total.
The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo thanked the Green Flag award, “which demonstrates not only the municipal commitment to recycling but also the neighbors and in this case the hotel establishments†to which he congratulated especially “that no they hesitate to participate in a time of maximum activity when more containers are generated â€.
Roberto Fuentes said that the total number of containers collected in the Region of Murcia during the summer amounted to 2300 tons with a growth compared to the previous year of 9 percent.
Fuentes explained that the environmental benefits of these figures are equivalent to the withdrawal of 700 vehicles during one year or to avoid the extraction of almost 3000 tons of raw material from nature, in addition to preventing the emission of 1350 tons of greenhouse gases.
Counselor Antonio Luengo congratulated the City Council of San Javier and applauded the launch of campaigns such as the "Green Flags Movement" that contribute to spreading the culture of selective waste collection and reuse.
Luengo thanked the collaboration of municipalities and hospitality and stressed the regional government's commitment to recycling.
