The mayor of San Javier José Miguel Luengo and the Councilor for Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz today confirmed the development of the accessibility works for the pedestrian walkways that line the avenue between San Javier and Santiago de la Ribera, accompanied by Camen Gil, president of the Federation of Murcian Associations of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities, FAMDIF, with which the City Council maintains a collaboration agreement on accessibility.
The works, which have had a budget of 87,000 of which 40 percent are financed with a grant from the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia for improvements in accessibility, save any obstacle of the two pedestrian walks that run along the Aviation avenues Spanish and Mar Menor.
In both cases, the necessary slopes have been provided when they are interrupted by a perpendicular street as well as different pavements that warn people with sensory disabilities of crossing or itinerary changes.
Carmen Gil, who came accompanied by two Famdif architects, who supervise the works, thanked "the effort that San Javier is making in terms of accessibility taking another step in making a friendlier city."
Carmen Gil, who also visited José Antonio and Calderón de la Barca streets, recently renovated with total accessibility as it is a single platform, highlighted the importance of “universal accessibility, because it does not only affect people with disabilitiesâ€.
In this sense, the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo stressed that "accessibility improves the quality of life of all citizens, with or without disabilities."
Luengo thanked Famdif for his collaboration "which helps us to move forward in the best way" and after recognizing "that there is still work to be done", the mayor stressed "the commitment of the City Council of San Javier to continue advancing in terms of accessibility to a municipality more comfortable for everyone. â€
