The libraries of San Javier began the year 2020 with a total of 10,696 registered members, almost 30 percent of the population of the municipality, said the Councilor for Culture, David Martínez who highlighted "good health" that shows the public service of libraries from which a total of 15,358 books were borrowed last year.
The libraries of San Javier, which have a total collection of 38,865 volumes of all genres, received a total of 173,206 user visits during 2019. Among the services provided by the Library, the cultural activity generated in the center stands out with a total of 162 cultural activities scheduled during the past year attended by a total of 8,100 people.
David Martínez referred to the San Javier library as a culture generating center and highlighted the effort made throughout the year to promote reading, especially among children, so he has received five national awards such as the Prize María Moliner of the Ministry of Culture and the Special Prize for intergenerational coexistence granted by the Banco de Santander Foundation in 2019.
Last year the San Javier library also grew in infrastructure with the creation of 200 new reading posts as part of an investment of 110,000 euros in various improvements that included new furniture and repainting of the facilities, a bebeteca, a security arch and the conditioning of the cafeteria area.
