The municipal group of citizens has approved its motion in which it asks the Consistory to urge the Government of the Nation to include in the next state budgets a sufficient item to launch the Zero Discharge Project to the Mar Menor.
The orange proposal also includes a request for the construction of the necessary infrastructures "to avoid the dramatic and recurrent consequences of torrential rains in the Mar Menor region", and the elaboration coordinated with the regional government and the riverside municipalities of a Plan Contra Las Riadas: "This plan should not only contemplate the actions necessary to avoid the current climate situation, but those that will be necessary for the evolution of climate change over the next half century," said orange spokesman Víctor Pérez.
The contrary vote of Vox based on the denial of climate change prevented unanimity in the approval of the motion of Citizens.
The proposal of Citizens ratified by the Plenary also includes a reference to the community institutions, in particular the European Commission, the European Parliament and the European Council, in which it calls on them to “articulate the necessary actions to create a network of Cities and Flooded Areas of Europe, in order to implement the actions and investments necessary to protect these areas especially vulnerable to climate change, such as the Mar Menor â€.
Perez has recalled the "enormous challenge" of the recovery of the Mar Menor, and has called for "a coordinated action, without political fronts or tactics;
a technical action and, above all, planned and sustained over time, since we must face a situation that is likely to become structural: that of recurrent torrential rains with high potential for damage to the region, as the events of the last months".
