The Department of Social Rights has launched a free playroom service in the districts of El Mirador and Pozo Aledo that will run until June in the afternoon for children between 3 and 12 years of age.
The initiative aims to "serve the child population furthest from the resources of the municipality, creating spaces that offer socio-educational services to prevent situations of exclusion and favor their development and inclusion," explained the mayor of Social Rights, Estíbaliz Masegosa who presented the service accompanied by the coordinator of the Municipal Social Services Center, Alicia Balsalobre.
The toy libraries have been operating since last January with two groups at the El Mirador school on Mondays and Wednesdays, and one at the civic center of Pozo Aledo on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Monitors and educators serve children who, in addition to school tasks, will work on education in values, environmental activities, crafts, games, and sports activities, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. in both cases.
Councilwoman Estíbaliz Masegosa framed this activity within the commitment of the City Council, as a Child Friendly City, recognized by UNICEF, to work for the welfare of children and the promotion of their rights.
The toy libraries are held for the second year, after the success of the first edition, financed through a grant granted by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia for the development of actions to support family and children.
In this edition, positive parentality will also be worked through the participation and sporadic involvement of families that will be invited to share activities with their children.
Masegosa recalled that there are still free places in the three groups that are already in operation and encouraged families to take advantage of this free resource so they will only have to attend one of the sessions and register.
