More than 3000 people participated yesterday in the parade of comparsas of the Carnival of Santiago de la Ribera that was followed by thousands of people along the route from Sandoval Avenue to Spanish Aviation Avenue.
The comparsas were overcome once again by the showyness of the costumes and the choreographies in a show that every year attracts more public.
The comparsas of the schools that the commission awarded with the first three prizes that went to "El Recuerdo", followed by "Our Lady of Loreto" and "Fulgencio Ruiz" were not lacking.
The muses of the local troupes and the queen of the Carnival were the most sought after in a parade that also did not miss the invited foreign troupes that also receive the Carnival commission awards.
On this occasion, Shambala, from Sangonera la Verde, won the first prize, followed by Tambataya, Mula, Aradia, Cartagena and Kissamba de Mula.
The parade of comparsas closed yesterday an intense weekend of carnival in Santiago de la Ribera that on Saturday lived a new edition of the Pasabares, one of the most popular events that filled the streets and bars of the street with good humor and the best carnival atmosphere location.
It was the prelude to another great carnival party, the I Drag Queen Gala, the main novelty of this year that was born with a vocation for continuity.
The 2020 edition of the Carnival of Santiago de la Ribera was affected by the tragic air accident in which AGA commander Eduardo Fermín Garvalena died, on Thursday, February 27, which led to the cancellation of the chirigotas contest scheduled for that day and the choreography of Friday 28, declared day of official mourning in the municipality.
