José Miguel Luengo expressed the "commitment of the City of San Javier to the Environment and climate change" for which the City "has had the European contribution through the FEDER funds that finance 80 percent of the replacement works of all the lighting and boilers at the sports center with a total investment of 417,000 euros.
" The Councilor for Public Services, María Dolores Ruiz explained that the works are part of the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy "San Javier, horizon 2022", financed 80 percent by the FEDER funds, whose action strategy includes the energy improvement of municipal facilities.
Ruiz added that in the case of the municipal sports center, more than 800 luminaires and projectors will be replaced inside the pavilions and buildings, as well as all the exterior lighting for the Pitín stadiums and tracks, with others of the latest generation and LED technology.
This action will provide savings on the bill of 40 percent by ceasing to emit 120 tons of CO2, said the mayor, adding that the works, which have suffered the delay of the pandemic, will be completed in two months. The replacement of gas-oil boilers with others of natural gas for the supply of sanitary hot water for all the facilities of the sports center has already been completed in the absence of the last details, said councilor María Dolores Ruiz, who noted the annual savings of 40,000 euros that will suppose the change of model that will avoid the emission of 95 tons of CO2.
Ruiz added that previously the hot water production boiler for the heated pool had been replaced with an investment of 38,000 euros.
The mayor advanced that the losses in the hiring have allowed to have 180,000 euros that will be used to improve the energy efficiency of the town hall building, both in lighting and refrigeration. The mayor, José Miguel Luengo pointed out that the City Council is making "the largest investment in its history to improve energy efficiency" and recalled that in addition to the 417,000 euros of the sports center, "in the next few days we will propose the companies awarded a contract for 5 million euros to change more than 5,000 lights in the entire municipality, which will allow us to stop emitting 820 tons of CO2, a benefit equivalent to the planting of 21,000 trees.
" Luengo highlighted the importance of ERDF funds to undertake these actions, which he described as "future bets and commitment to the planet".
