| Luengo, who chairs the FEMP Environment Commission, took part in the seminar "Technological and Environmental Challenges" in which he also spoke about the incidence of pandemic in the environmental challenges of administrations | The Mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, who chairs the FEMP Environment Commission, today underlined the importance that technological advances have in environmental management.
Luengo, who was invited to participate in the webinar "Technological and Environmental Challenges" organized by the Professional College of Technical Engineers in Computer Science and Graduates in Computer Engineering, from the Region of Murcia, and Nutanix, stated that the joint challenges of technology and the environment "constitutes an opportunity for the improvement of the environment, for the economy and for society as a whole". José Miguel Luengo added that monitoring as a means of environmental control, the optimization of material resources, routes, and logistics thanks to technology highlight the importance that technological development is having in better environmental management for municipalities that have facing great challenges such as the European strategy of Circular Economy 2030.
Luengo agreed with the other speakers on the variants that the Coronavirus crisis has introduced with the greatest impact on waste management in a context of infectious pandemic by generating a greater amount of both plastics, paper and cardboard. When it came to dealing with waste and recycling management, there was also a coincidence in highlighting the importance of the producer as an important vertex in the process that falls mainly on administrations and consumers.
Luengo highlighted the role of the manufacturer that with greater responsibility in the process can influence environmental management from the origin of manufacturing with a design of more sustainable and ecological products.
Luengo highlighted the greater social awareness existing among the population about the need to care for the planet and the role that the development of applied technology can contribute in that task.
