| Mayor Luengo asks the rector for the Polytechnic to provide training and develop research projects | The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) will be able to provide training and develop research projects in the new strategic project "San Javier, Ciudad del Aire" promoted by the San Javier City Council.
The request was raised today by the mayor of the municipality, José Miguel Luengo, to the rector, Beatriz Miguel, during a working meeting held in the Rector's Office.San Javier, Ciudad del Aire ”, based on the municipality's aeronautical tradition, is aimed at tourism development and economic dynamization.
According to the study managed by the City Council, it could receive 124,000 annual visitors and generate 5.4 million euros of direct and induced income, in addition to creating 16 to 33 direct jobs and generating a hotel occupancy rate of 1.5 points in the location. The actions are aimed at promoting the creation of an industrial and training belt related to aeronautics. The plan proposes new uses of the old airport building compatible with the museum as a convention or training center, among others.
It also plans to make a participatory museum, which would house the collection of classic aircraft of the Infante de Orleans Foundation, The Rector has described the project as "brave" and has remarked that it is very positive for the municipality and for the Region.
"It is very interesting for our engineering students to have the opportunity to meet airplanes and access their technologies," he added. The Mayor, for his part, has asked the UPCT to collaborate in training and knowledge transfer in this project.
