| The mayor, José Miguel Luengo meets with the Rector, Beatriz Miguel to present the training and research aspect of the project and request the participation of the University | The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo and the councilor Rubén Pérez, met this morning with the Rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), Beatriz Miguel to present the project "San Javier, city of the air" and request her support of the University in its formative aspect.

The mayor conveyed to the councilor the municipal interest in having the support of the UPCT in the development, both of the training line and of research and business projects related to aeronautics that are intended to be implemented in the old airport terminal together with the collection of antique airplanes of the Infante de Orleans Foundation. The mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo pointed out that steps are already being taken for the possible implementation of official studies related to aeronautics as well as with companies in the sector that have already shown their interest in the project that includes the creation of an aeronautical cluster , "so it would be very important to have the knowledge transfer that the UPCT can contribute." The training and the museum section in the old San Javier airport together with the industrial belt form an essential part of the "San Javier, city of the air" project of tourist and economic revitalization based on the aeronautical tradition of the municipality. The Rector of the UPCT Beatriz Miguel showed her support for the project, which she described as "very brave" and highlighted "the added value that they can bring to both the city and the Region." At the end of the meeting in which the Vice-Rector for Economy, Business and Entrepreneurship, Juan Francisco Sánchez, also participated, the Rector highlighted the interest that the project could have for the engineering students of the UPCT, where 121 students living in San Javier study , for direct access to aeronautical technology. The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) is already present in San Javier where it teaches the degree of Industrial Organization Engineering at the Defense University Center, a center attached to the UPCT and located in the General Air Academy.
