The Director General of Public Safety and Emergency, Manuel Duran, and the mayor of San Javier, José Miguel Luengo, presented today in Santiago de la Ribera the 'Enjoy safe bathing', which will run along the coast campaign and the Civil Protection volunteers distribute water bottles and disseminate self-protection tips for users of the beaches of the region.
Manuel Duran recalled that this informative action of the Autonomous Community, in collaboration with emergency services in the municipalities of San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier, Los Alcázares, La Union, Cartagena, Mazarrón, Lorca and Aguilas, and the company Aquadeus, "weekend of August on the beaches of bigger audiences of the eight coastal municipalities is done".
"Strengthen preventive measures is the best weapon we have to prevent emergencies," said the director, who recalled the desirability of swimming in patrolled beaches, be aware of the color of the flags, knowing their meaning, follow the instructions of lifeguards and protection from sun and heat.
This campaign is part of the Plan Surveillance and Rescue in Beaches and Rescue at Sea Region (Copla Plan), which this summer has deployed 121 checkpoints, divided by 72 beaches and attended by 250 people, in which there 13 rescue boats, jet skis 13, 19 pirogues rescue, 56 quads, 1 scooter, five ambulances and one ATV.
It also has 27 adapted for people with disabilities to access water from the beach chairs.
Regional investment in the operating Copla Plan amounts to 672,633 euros, 20,000 more than in 2015, of which more than 503,000 euros is earmarked for surveillance and rescue beaches, and the rest to maritime rescue.
