Luengo participated, along with representatives of all local political groups in an organized event with AFAL Cartagena and Shire, which has an office in municipal facilities in Santiago de la Ribera, on the occasion of World Alzheimer's Day "a day that It should serve to create social awareness. "
The mayor stressed the importance of the arrival in the municipality of Association of Relatives and Friends of Alzheimer, AFAL, which for a year offers its advisory services, treatment and support for people suffering Alzheimer's who no longer have to leave the municipality to receive them.
Luengo reiterated the support and commitment of the entire municipal corporation to such initiatives that contribute to mitigating the effects of a disease that "suffer the sick and suffering families," said Raul Nieto as manager AFAL Cartagena and Shire.
Just this year, the World Alzheimer's Day is celebrated under the theme "The value of the Caregiver", putting the focus on families and caregivers of the sick.
Pedro Antonio Arroyo, president of AFAL Cartagena and Shire said the aim of this association, which has served more than 7,000 people in its 21 years of existence, is the defense of the quality of life of patients and relatives.
Sunday Tormo, husband of a patient and user of the Association, which has 180 members, intervened to demand a State policy on Alzheimer taking into account the territorial equality of all concerned, to promote research, to develop a strategy socio-health coordination, and publicly recognize the costs of the disease, which is around 30,000 euros per year, among other factors.
